Ammons' guitar work "conjures up images of a delta blues picker pondering the
northern lights."
"Its hard to find a musician like Michael Lee Ammons that addresses tradition
with a fresh attitude." “…Mike[‘s]
duo gets my highest recommendation for style, solid musicianship, and fine
entertainment…I hope to hear you again!”
Michael Lee Ammons and the Water Street Hot Shots perform hot old-time blues! In keeping with the hard driving, foot stomping, kick-up-some-dust acoustic blues styles of the 1920's and 30's, they throw a party for their listeners. The Water Street Hot Shots work to "shake it and break it"! Using traditional instruments including the steel-bodied resonator guitar, washboard, mandolin, string bass, harmonica, jug, and kazoo, this string band shows that its influences are rooted in bottleneck-slide delta blues, fingerstyle blues, and early washboard bands. Audiences can expect to hear the rousing styles of bluesmen Son House, Muddy Waters, Booker White, and Robert Johnson. Their original and traditional string tickling also sets toes to tapping in the traditions of Willie McTell, Blind Boy Fuller, and the Memphis Jug Band. Hot Shot band member Rich Higdon always amazes audience members young and old with his flashy washboard playing. The steady bass snapping of Jarrod “JR” Fenner, and the mandolin melodies and rhythms of Alan “Doc” Mock provide for lots of danceable fun. Ammons' performances include a few sweet slide-guitar instrumentals and lots of crowd participation. Don't miss your chance to hear the acoustic music of Michael Lee Ammons and the Water Street Hot Shots.
